Ponte de Lima Horse Fair
This fair is probably the second biggest in Portugal after Golegã Lusitano Festival.
It is located in the North in the gorgeous historic town of Ponte de Lima. Like International Lusitano Festival the breeders are presenting their best horses in a series of showing classes. There is also working equitation, dressage (Top Level), performances and evening shows to enjoy.
The breeders have wooden Casettas where you can visit them, enjoy some wine and learn more about their horses.
There are fun activities such as carriage rides, cocktail bars, rare Portuguese breeds of horses, cattle, sheep and even dogs to see. A mouth watering selection of stalls, shops and eating out is a super experience with the extensive choice of restaurants serving regional foods and wines. This is a great place to try the cheeses, meats and wines of the North.
The North of Portugal is very stunning and really different from the South we firmly recommend adding a few days on the explore more of the area take a trip boat on River Dao through the sloping hills covered in vines, stop at the vineyards for lunch. Visit some of the wonderful towns.
Getting there we recommend flying into Porto Airport.
Word of warning – It can be extremely hot at Ponte de Lima, please come prepared for this, there is not much shade when watching the horse events.
